I have recently joined the East Sussex Weavers, Spinners & Dyers Guild. They are a terrific bunch of people, who between them have an enormous amount of skill and experience. And the best bit is they are very happy to share that wealth of craftiness with everyone else.
Because of all the beautiful artisan yarns I see at the meetings, I really want to get started making my own. But I feel I must learn everything I can about knitting and crochet first. So this year will be my knitting year. On Saturday armed with some needles and a good friend I headed off to 'Much Ado Barn' for an advanced knitting techniques workshop.
Just to have a day devoted to craft is so rare for me, and therefore even more enjoyable, chatting, drinking tea and eating the most delicious food prepared by Cate & Nash. (They own Much Ado).
Lucinda Guy lead the workshop and went through decorative casting on, knitting in the round, intarsia, cables and decorative stitches. I suppose you can find most of this in books and through online tutorials, but the group forum meant you could share ideas about the application of what you had learnt.
I feel as though I have acquired some new skills, and polished up on others, but for me it is the exchange of ideas that is most inspiring.
Looks like a wonderful time. I think I'm ready for a workshop - somewhere to meet up with other crafters.
Think I'll take a look at Rowan!
